.......

I know I haven’t been writing much. The summer is more of a dormant period for me. It's a period of intake and growth before the birth of a new series in the fall. I have ideas brewing, I am learning a lot about fiber arts. I have always loved the organic nature and textures of textile art. I would like to find a way to incorporate fabric into my work.

I am looking forward to the Zero One Festival in San Jose http://www.01sj.org/ . It should be interesting and inspiring. The current Jennifer Steinkamp exhibit at the SJMA is amazing, and almost hypnotizing. I love when something digital can feel alive, natural and organic.

Rappelling is not fun

I went rappelling down a 165ft cavern yesterday and it was not the barrel of fun I thought it would be. I can’t even begin to describe it, it was very difficult and scary. Never having done anything like that before and not getting a lot of direction made it even more intense. To top it off after rappelling down we had to walk 234 stairs back up to the top. The cavern was beautiful with stalagmites and other formations. I didn’t get to see much of it as I was rappelling down because I was concentrating on not dieing. I am a bit bruised up sore today but over all it was a good adventure, a lot different than I anticipated though. Below are some pictures.

My fancy rappelling outfit, don’t you like my gloves?

Going down

Prints, and Cards, and Journals - Oh My

I would like to announce a new feature to my website. I now have a shopping cart area where you can purchase fine art prints, blank cards, and blank books. You can order a fine art print of any piece you see on the site in 8x10 or 4x6 sizes. The blank cards are available in two different sizes; perfect for Birthdays, Anniversary’s, Thank You notes and much more. The blank books are made of recycled natural fibers with hand stitched binding. They make wonderful journals, diaries, recipe holders, and gifts.

Each purchase is completely secure and safe. Simply click on the link below to get to my online store.http://www.shannonamidon.com/purchase.htm

If you are feeling particularly generous and would like to support the arts, I am currently fund raising for my next art adventure. I am planning a 20 day trip to Thailand and Malaysia. I am hoping to go in February 2007. This trip will allow me to document the flora and fauna of the regions and create photo based artwork inspired by them. Another project that I am researching and exited to explore is Thai Spirit Houses.
Each generous art supporter who makes a donation will receive a signed limited edition art print inspired by my travels. You will also be invited to an open house soirée where I will share the photographs and artwork inspired by this trip.
